Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone (a little late, I know)! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
We went to California for Christmas, and it was a wonderful trip. Both Grandpa's, my brother, Dave's brother Mike, and many other important people all got to meet Jack for the first time. Jack handled the flights and staying at other people's houses really well.
These are some Christmas pictures. I know that I put a lot of them on here :). I will post more about our trip later.

This is at the hospital Christmas party. Everyone wanted to come see the baby with the santa hat. I felt like we were famous.

Dave decorated Jack's cradle. Jack loved the lights, he would coo at them. So cute!

These are my guys in their Christmas outfits before church

Here we are at Christmas mass

Opening presents

My Aunt got Jack this puppet. We all went crazy over this thing.

Jack is 2 months old!

We had Jack's 2 month well baby appointment yesterday. He is now 10 lbs 8 oz and 22.64 inches. They have a chart that shows where that puts him against other kids. He is 32% for weight and 44% for height.
His head was 78% for growth. The Foss side of his family is where he got the big head from. For that matter, most of his physical features appear to come from my side. I am sure we will see more of the Boland side when he gets older.

Jack's Baptism

We had Jack baptised on Saturday. I was so happy with how it all went. Jack was the only baby being baptised which made it nice and private, my favorite priest was the one who did it, and we had 6 friends and my mom there. The only thing that could have been better is if Jack's Godparents could have be there. They live out of town, but we were lucky enough to have two friends step in for the ceremony. It was wonderful!!

Working Out

I have finally started working out. Right now that just means walking for 30 minutes a day, but I have to start somewhere. Dave and I went to the park this weekend and used the awesome running stroller/bike trailer that my dad bought for us. I can't wait to run with it!

The park felt like the set of a disney movie because there were so many animals out. This is a squirel that greeted us. There were also swans in the lake which I thought was pretty cool.

Interested

Jack has become very interested in music, lights, and the colorful dinosaurs in his crib. His mobile plays music and he loves to watch the dinosaurs go around. He also loves to look at the dinosaurs on the bumper of his crib. He really likes the orange one ... it's his friend.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for this year. Dave made it through the classroom portion of his doctoral program, we got one of our first choice assignments for next year, I became Catholic, and that we have a beautiful & healthy baby boy.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Our Orange Tree

This is a picture of an orange tree that we planted 2 years ago after moving into our house. It may be small but it has actually grown a lot. Last year it only made one orange. It makes me think about how we are going to be moving soon because when we planted it we figured we would be moving at the time the tree started to make a lot of oranges.
Dave graduates in March of 2009 and we will be moving to Washington DC. I sometimes feel like that day will never come (and in some ways I don't really want it to because the situation here has been a good one).
But, I am really excited about moving, and there are three things I am VERY excited about:

1. The job is not supposed to deploy
2. My brother in-law, his family, and two of our friends will be stationed there as well
3. I have never lived on the East Coast before

peek-a-boo

This weekend our friend Nicole discovered that Jack responds to peek-a-boo. It's fun to play with him like that. I came out to the car this morning and found dave playing with him. Jack was loving it!! I got a great picture when Jack couldn't see the camera. I tried to come around to get a good picture of Jack's face but then Jack wouldn't smile anymore. I posted the picture anyway because I thought people might like to see his face (I also thought my friend Alyssa would like to see the sonic coke in the door hehe).

Most of the time I just enjoy Jack's smiles without trying to get a picture. When I do try and get a picture it never works. Maybe someday ....

Sleep

This is a picture of Jack napping on Dave. I thought it would fit this post.
Jack usually sleeps about 4 and a half hours at night. About two weeks ago, we had one 6 hour night. It has happened twice more since then, otherwise we get the 4 and a half hours. Last night, Jack went 7 hours. YES!! We had such a good day yesterday that was just the icing on the cake.
Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment that went very well. Since it ended right before lunch, we got to go have lunch with Dave. Dave didn't have a patient until 2:30 so we got to go see where he works and hang out with him. Jack was in a really good mood and doing lots of smiling. Everyone thought he was so cute, and he was smiling at everyone. I loved it!! I haven't been able to capture a picture of his smiling but hopefully I will get one soon. Then for dinner, I made chicken and dumplings which is one of my favorite meals. After that we got 7 hours of consecutive sleep. What a good day.

Marathon

Dave has been training for the marathon since March. He tried to run one in san diego but he was not in good shape and it did not go well. On Sunday, Dave ran the San Antonio Marathon in 3 hours and 24 minutes. Yay!! I tried to get a picture of dave running but it didn't come out well. This picture is of Dave and his friends after the race.
We went to cheer for Dave and several friends who were also running the race. Jack was so good!! He pretty much slept but when he wasn't sleeping he was being an angel. Last year I ran the 5k at this race. Being at the race made me realize that it's been a year since I have been able to run!! I can't wait to start up again. Hopefully that will be soon :)

Going Out!

We have already started taking Jack out on the town. Most of the time he just sleeps through everything but that probably makes our lives much easier. The first picture is of Jack in his Halloween costume. He wore that when we went to a Halloween party with some of the people Dave works with at the hospital. The second picture is from this past weekend at the Wurstfest. It seemed to me that Wurstfest is like Oktoberfest but with a lot more sausage. Dave was happy to drink beer and talk with some of his friends, I was happy to eat yummy german food and talk with mine, and Jack slept for 5 and a half hours which was awesome.

Jack's First Month

Jack at 1 month.

The 1st month went really fast, but we loved it. He didn't like to sleep more than 3 hours at a time through the night, but that's all part of the experience right? There have been lots of diapers, feedings, crying, staring at him, and him staring at us. We just love every little thing he does.

Jack at 3 weeks. I think it looks like he is trying to dance.

Jack's Birth

John "Jack" Howard Boland was born on October 5, 2008 at 6:06pm. These are some pictures of us in the hospital.

This is our first family photo. Jack is only one hour old
(thus Mom is only one hour recovered).
Jack getting his footprints taken for his first crime (stealing Mommy's heart).
So young to already have a rap sheet.

Some of Dave's classmates who were working in the hospital came up to visit. From left to right are Amy, Jack, Janice, Sonrie, Bryan, Andy, Jason, and Chelsea.

This is Dave in front of our house getting ready to bring Jack home for the first time.

The New Blog

Hello Everyone! Dave and I wanted to start a blog so that everyone can see pictures of Jack and follow our adventures. This blog is named in honor of Dave's favorite show "The Colbert Report." (For those who don't know, the "t" in report is silent.) Maybe someday our blog will be featured on Comedy Central and then we'll be famous...or not.
